“The optimal strategy in behavior change, with yourself and others,

is compassion.”
   ~ Cheri Huber

Approach

I’m an integrative therapist who sees possibility, not pathology, in others.  My style is engaged, accepting, and relational.  You and the experiences you bring to the table are sacred stuff that get my wholehearted respect and attention.  I value the uniqueness of your path and realize the way to integration is varied and extremely personal.  I'm dedicated to tailoring the work in each situation.

We’re all swimming in this great, baffling, enthralling mixed-up soup  together, so we might as well break bread with each other and eat up! Even though each of us must ultimately face our aloneness and take care of ourselves, we don’t have to be lonely doing it.

I interweave a variety of modalities based on your needs and wishes. I offer a strength-based, embodied approach incorporating systems, experiential and narrative models, EMDR, Gestalt, attachment and somatic work, expressive arts and mindfulness practices.  I’m comfortable with intense states of being and the wide spectrum of human emotions, both positive and negative, that may arise.  I feel passionate about reconnecting to the alive gut-sense knowing in each of us and following its expression.

I see you just as you are - as whole and resourceful and inherently wise.  My role as a therapist lies in assisting you in your own unfolding.  My practice in mindfulness and compassion supports me to be fully present for you and your process.  Our relationship is the basis for trust from which insight can arise.  I look, listen, open and utilize my skills to serve you on your path to discovery as fully as possible.

PAIN AS ALLY
Pain can oftentimes be an (unwanted) opportunity for health, a portal to peace, a fiercer face of freedom.  Once we begin to look at the rigid, grimier places, shifts tend to happen on their own accord. You will have my support in tip-toeing into the stories,  patterns of thinking and behaviors that cause you to get stranded.  Relief often comes from turning to fear instead of hiding, ignoring, or pushing it away – all of which adds a heaping dose of suffering to your already heavy plate.  It IS possible to find peace right in the bulls-eye of pain ~ turning your resentments into forgiveness, your resistance into flow, your rejections into acceptance.
BODY AS RESOURCE
The body is a central tool for self-knowing and a remarkable reservoir to access in the most confusing of times. When we happen upon this discovery of embodied wisdom, it's like striking gold, tapping into a wellspring of insight.  It provides ongoing guidance and support for valued action and engaged living.  Clinicians working at the mind-body frontier are learning exactly how thoughts and feelings are mirrored in the body and can be accessed through sensing into the body.  Working with these states uses the tools of Mindfulness (focused, nonjudgmental awareness of the present moment) and Body Awareness (application of mindfulness to physical sensations) to explore and shift mental and emotional states.

“The way to do is to be.”  ~ Lao Tzu
I like to work from both the inside/out and the outside/in – supporting discernment while investigating old behaviors.  Internal perceptions and external actions are symbiotic.  As we grow up into this world, it influences, shapes and creates us.  In turn, our inner states are projected and manifested in the outer world.  BEING and DOING, how we ARE and how we ACT serve as instructive references as we work together.

Safety and respect are my priority.  Know that your therapy is carried out within a

gentle environment of trust & non-violence in a Hate-Free Zone.
