"There is not a typical response to loss, as there is no typical loss. Our grieving is as individual as our lives."
~ Elizabeth Kübler-Ross
Grief &Loss
Grief may be experienced in response to physical losses, such as death, or in response to other kinds of profound losses such as divorce, sickness, or other major transitions. Mourning expresses itself in a myriad of forms. You might be currently suffering from shock and disbelief, numbness, anger, guilt, fatigue, profound sadness, despair and deep loneliness — or all these feelings at once. There is no right way to grieve. It is an individual process and a natural part of life which has no timetable. Of course your life won’t be the same after a significant loss, but experiencing your grief and following its natural course will allow you to adjust to living on. It can be very useful to find healthy ways to work with your pain so that, in time, it can transform you, renew you and permit you to grow into your new way of being.
Life changes and losses due to health issues can have a particularly powerful impact on you and your loved ones. Because of my experience with hospice and the hospital, I feel a speciality of mine is to help navigate folks through the wake of such upheaval. I am well-familiar with the path of chronic pain, long-term care, the palliative care process, dying and its journey into death with all their overwhelming choices, ethical issues, medical decisions, questions, fears, hopes and uncertainty that arise. I also offer tailored ceremonies and rituals that are meaningful to you to mark sacred passages of various kinds.
